Dedicated IP vs Shared IP VPN: Which Should You Buy?

Shared VPN IPs are cheap but come with captchas, blacklists and broken logins. Here is when a dedicated IP VPN is worth paying for.

Most VPN apps sold to consumers use shared IPs: hundreds or thousands of users leave the internet through the same address. A dedicated IP VPN gives one customer their own address. Both encrypt your traffic, but they behave very differently once you need to log in to anything that cares about IP addresses.

What goes wrong with shared VPN IPs

  • Captchas everywhere. Google, Cloudflare and banks see huge volumes of traffic from one IP and assume it is a bot.
  • Blacklists. If one user on the shared IP sends spam or abuses a site, everyone on that IP gets blocked.
  • Broken IP whitelisting. You cannot ask a client, broker or firewall to trust an IP that you share with strangers and that changes every session.
  • Account security alerts. Banks, payment gateways and ad platforms flag logins that jump between IPs and countries.

What a dedicated IP fixes

A dedicated IP is yours alone and does not change. Its reputation depends only on how you use it, so captchas and blocks largely disappear. You can whitelist it once on every system that needs it — cloud security groups, office firewalls, broker API settings, admin panels — and it keeps working from any network.

When a shared VPN is enough

If you only want to hide your browsing on public Wi-Fi and never need to log in to IP-restricted systems, a shared VPN does the job and costs less.

When you should buy a dedicated IP

  • You trade through broker APIs that require a registered static IP (algo trading guide).
  • Your company or clients whitelist IPs for remote access.
  • You manage bank, payment or advertising accounts that must look consistent.
  • You need an IP in a specific country, such as India, Singapore or the UK.
  • Several people need to share one trusted IP — our Premium High Speed plan covers up to 10 users.

Dedicated IP pricing

Dedicated IPs cost more than shared VPNs because each address is reserved for one customer. BuyStaticIP plans start from about ₹639 per month on a 3-year term, with monthly billing also available. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.

The bottom line

Buy a shared VPN for anonymity. Buy a dedicated IP VPN when you need to be recognised: for whitelisting, trading, banking and business access. New to the idea? Start with what a static IP VPN is.
